The economics of Telemedicine
Résumé
The provision of telemedicine faces two major problems : the underproduction of telemedicine and the impossibility for agents to coordinate properly in adopting the technology. After showing that these problems are consequences of the dual nature of telemedicine, i.e healthcare services and technology, I claim that the role of public authorities is meaningful when it copes with the lack of information and underproduction but coordination can be restored by market mechanisms.
